FREDONIA, N.Y. – In the regular-season finale, the Oswego State men's hockey team defeated Fredonia 7-2 at Steele Hall Arena Saturday night. The win gives the Lakers final record of 13-10-2 on the season and 8-7-1 in the conference. Fredonia finishes 8-14-3 on the season (4-10-2 SUNYAC).
It was a flurry of goals in the second period that gave Oswego the edge. Trailing 1-0 going into the stanza,
Andrew Barton tied it up quickly scoring just 35 seconds in. Oswego then doubled its lead, getting help from the fourth line as
TJ Sneath secured a goal with assists from
Connor Boyd and
Sean Federow. Halfway through, Fredonia would tie it up but the Lakers didn't fret as they continued to control the period. With 5:15 left in the second, Oswego upped its lead to one goal again, this time courtesy of
Chris Waterstreet. And just 1:01 after that goal,
Connor Boyd scored his first of the year.
With a 5-2 lead going into the third,
Alex Botten got on to the score sheet next for the Lakers, lighting the lamp just 2:55 into the final period.
Chris Raguseo would get the final Laker goal of the night scoring with 6:43 left in the game.
Oswego dominated the game as a team, outshooting the Blue Devils 43-20. The Lakers also controlled the face off circle, winning 43 of a possible 69 puck drops. Barton (18) and Botten (11) each finished with double-digit wins.
Matt Zawadzki played the entire game for Oswego, collecting 18 total saves.
Men's hockey will focus on post season action as the team has secured the fourth seed in the SUNYAC Championship. Oswego will now host Brockport at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Marano Campus Center for the first round of the tournament.
