PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 4 Oswego State men's ice hockey team fell 4-3 in overtime to the top-seeded Plattsburgh Cardinals in the SUNYAC semifinal game Saturday night at Ronald B. Stafford Arena. With the loss, the Lakers finish their season with a 14-10-2 record. Plattsburgh improves to 20-3-3.
After a scoreless opening stanza, the Cardinals struck first with a goal 8:15 into the second period. Oswego fought back though as a scrum in front of the net was knocked in by
Cameron Berry to even the score up at the 9:27 mark. The Lakers were able to tack on another just 3:25 later as Ferreira scored his sixth goal of the year.
Brandon Adams was credited with an assist as he knocked the puck across the crease for a tap-in by his teammate.
Up 2-1 going into the final 20 minutes, Plattsburgh scored two in the middle of the period to regain the lead. With the clock winding down,
Kenny Neil tied it back up with shot through traffic in front of the Cardinal netminder. Both team's continued to fire shots through the last four minutes but the game remained a draw through the horn for regulation.
In the extra period, the Lakers had a good chance as
Alex Botten sent one towards the net that
Chris Waterstreet almost finished but Cardinal goalie Spencer Finney nixed the opportunity. Plattsburgh then ended the game with a slap shot from the blue line that sealed the deal.
Matt Zawadzki finished the game with 17 saves through 70 minutes between the pipes.
