ALFRED, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-9 contest to host Alfred University at Yunevich Stadium on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 2-4 on the year while the Saxons improve to 6-1.
 
Oswego held early leads at 1-0 and 2-1, but Alfred was able to get a man-up goal with 1:09 left in the first quarter, giving the Saxons an edge it would never relinquish. Trailing 7-4 at the break, the Lakers came out hot in the second half, scoring the third quarter's first two goals to cut the deficit to just one. Oswego then went on a scoring drought as Alfred notched nine of the next 10 goals.
 
As a team, the Lakers won one more faceoff than the Saxons (14-13) and successfully completed 75.0% of their clear attempts (15-for-20). Chase Izyk was responsible for all of those 14 victories in the X, going along with two ground balls.
 
On offense, Oswego was led by senior James Lennon's career day. The midfielder recorded six points in the outing, a new career-high, while also setting a career-mark with four goals. Tyler Nason and Ryan Jelen aided the effort with multiple-point games, with the former scoring twice and the latter registering a goal and an assist.  
 
In loose ball situations, Tim Garrett tied a career-high while pacing all players on Wednesday with nine ground balls. The junior also gathered that total on March 5 in a 15-4 triumph over SUNY Poly. Jarrod Wilkom had the second-most ground balls for the Lakers, collecting six to go along with a goal.
 
Oswego will now have a short two-game home stand, starting with a 1 p.m. contest with Keuka College on Saturday.
