Lakers Win Game One of Weather-Shortened DH

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The No. 19 Oswego State baseball team defeated the Allegheny College Gators in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader on Friday at Bing Tyus Yard on the grounds of Polk State College. The Lakers improved to 13-3 on the year with the victory.

Game One: Oswego 2, Allegheny 1

Brian Nolan was a dominant figure on the mound in this one as he earned the win for Oswego and was able to best his counterpart from Allegheny on the mound. Neither pitcher let the game get away from them throughout making this quite the nail-biter. The freshman southpaw finished with a line of 6.1 innings pitched, four hits and no earned runs in his third win of the year.

The Lakers were aggressive with their swinging on the afternoon, particularly to lead off the innings as they strung together lead off hits in the second, third and fourth innings.

In the third inning after Robert Donnelly slapped a lead off single just over the head of the third baseman, he was picked off first on a lineout to right field. Yet, after the double play Wes Randall was able to get Oswego going again as he dropped a nasty bunt between the third baseman and pitcher, which when fielded was thrown away allowing the junior to move to second.

Immediately following, Brian Hamilton came up and knocked a single to left to drive in Randall and score the Lakers first run of the game.

Oswego got another run in the top of the fourth on a Myles Kutscher sacrifice fly to right after Eric Hamilton singled to right field earlier in the frame.

Mickey Putillo came on in the seventh inning to shut the door for Oswego and earned his first save of the year.

Game two between the clubs was cancelled in the bottom of the second inning due to lightning in the area, which eventually led to torrential rain.

The Lakers will resume action on the road in Ithaca, N.Y. for a single game on Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m.
