Four Home Runs Propel Lakers To DH Sweep

DOVER, Del. -- The Oswego State baseball team defeated the Wesley College Wolverines, 13-9 and 10-5, in both ends of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. The Lakers remain undefeated and push their record to 7-0 whereas Wesley drops to 6-4.

Game One: Oswego 13, Wesley 9 (7 inn.)

Eric Hamilton started off right where he finished on Saturday with a solo shot in his first appearance at the dish on Sunday to immediately put the Lakers in front.

In the second inning, after falling behind 2-1, Oswego scored five runs on four hits with Myles Kutscher sparking the rally. He started off the Laker half by singling to shallow right-center field and with great baserunning instincts took second on a wild pitch. After back-to-back RBI singles from Robert Donnelly and Wes Randall, E. Hamilton stepped to the plate. The junior would proceed to clear the bases as he found the gap in left field, putting the Lakers in front 6-2.

Mike Dellicarri would get in on the action in the Lakers' third and fifth innings by slapping a pair of singles. John Barnes collected a run scored on both hits as he was able to get on in each instance with singles of his own. Eli Holton tallied a run as he crossed the plate on the latter hit; the sophomore also had six put-outs in his start from behind the plate.

Dellicarri continued around the horn to score on Randall's second RBI-single of the day. Randall would also add a run scored and a stolen base.

In the top of the sixth E. Hamilton sailed another ball over the fence, with this one landing in left field. The Liverpool, N.Y. native is currently on record-setting pace for RBI and home runs for a single-season at Oswego.

Miles Kelly earned his second win of the year over three innings of work. Andrew Morano added two innings out of the pen and struck out three Wolverines. Mickey Putillo closed the door on Wesley in the bottom of the seventh by retiring the side.

Game Two: Oswego 10, Wesley 5 (7 inn.)

Despite Zach Kollar's RBI-single in the second inning that scored Jordan Giller, Oswego didn't find its bats until late in the second game of the day from Bob Reed field. In the fifth and seventh innings each, the Lakers scored four runs.

Kutscher began the fifth inning by slapping a solo homer over the wall in left. He also found the sweet spot for Oswego's lone run in the sixth inning when he ripped a double down the right-field line to drive in E. Hamilton.

Dellicarri doubled down the line as well immediately after Barnes doubled, which plated the latter. Kollar and Randall followed that up with singles to drive in their fellow Lakers.

In the seventh inning, Brian Hamilton singled in freshman catcher Collin Thompson after he got to first on a fielder's choice. E. Hamilton would then strike yet again as he blasted a three-run home run to left-center. It was his fifth homer in the last three games.

Cody Laflamme earned the win for Oswego with three innings of one-run ball. The Eagle Bridge, N.Y. native also struck out one batter.

The Lakers will return to action for their annual spring break trip to participate in the Russ Matt Invitational. The first of eight games will be against Fredonia on Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Florida.
