OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The nationally-ranked Oswego State baseball team found some late magic and took down New Paltz, 5-4 Saturday to complete the weekend sweep. The Lakers are now 17-3 on the season and 4-2 in the conference. New Paltz falls to 11-9-2 and 4-5.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning, Wes Randall absolutely crushed a ball, which just missed going over fence. Before the fielder retrieved the ball and got it into the infield all three Lakers: Matt Capobianco, John Barnes and Myles Kutscher, scored to give the Lakers the lead 5-4.

Mickey Putillo, who was already on the mound for the Lakers, closed out the game to earn the win. The senior tallied three innings in relief allowing two hits and no earned runs. In true closer fashion, the normal final-inning man struck out two of the last four batters.

Zach Kollar and Matt Capobianco, the heroes from the second game on Friday, began again right where they left off. The seven-eight duo both slapped singles to drive in a runner.

Kollar drove in Kutscher after he walked and moved to second and then third on wild pitches. Capobianco drove in Kollar after he also moved to second and then third, but this time by virtue of a passed ball.

Miles Kelly started the game for the Lakers and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. He allowed three runs in the fourth and fifth to end up with the no decision.

The No. 13 Lakers will return to the diamond on Tuesday for a single non-conference matchup with the Utica Pioneers.
