OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader to Geneseo Saturday afternoon at Laker Softball Field. Oswego was downed 9-0 in five innings in the first game before falling 10-3 in the second. With the loss, Oswego drops to .500 (2-2) in the conference and 8-6 overall, while the Knights improve to 7-9 overall (2-2 SUNYAC).
GAME 1:Geneseo controlled the most of the game as the Lakers couldn't seem to find their bats.
Erin Sweeney singled in the first inning only to get stranded at first. Oswego's other two hits came in the second as Sweeney and
Tori Trovato singled back-to-back but nothing came of it as the next batter lined out to right field.
Brittney Sears pitched the first three innings, before being relieved by
Alexis Nasca who finished out the last two.
GAME 2:In game two, the Lakers found themselves in a hole early, going down six runs through the first three. The Lakers made a solid effort to come back though in the bottom of the fifth beginning with
Ashley Lyman who took advantage of an error made by the shortstop to get on first. She was then sent home as Sweeney sent one over the right fielders head, allowing her to reach third. Trovato came up to the plate next and sent a shot over the left field fence, pulling Oswego to within three. The Knights rallied back though, tacking on four in the sixth.
Sears started for the Lakers but was replaced in the top of the fourth by
Alexandria Connelly.
Softball will return to action at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday as the team will host the Utica College Pioneers for a doubleheader.
