Oswego Upends No. 9 Brockport on Senior Day

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team (11-3, 6-2 SUNYAC) upset No. 9 Brockport (13-2, 6-2 SUNYAC) 13-12 on Saturday's Senior Day at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego's win is its 11th of the year, which is the second time in three seasons the Lakers have reached that victory total.

Next for the Lakers is their first appearance in the SUNYAC Championship since 2005, when fourth-seeded Oswego hosts No. 5 Potsdam at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Emily Lange picked the best time to get her first point of the contest, scooping up a loose ball outside of Oswego's offensive zone with just over two minutes remaining and the game at a 12-12 stalemate. Lange charged forward and found Gemma O'Kane behind the Golden Eagle defense, hitting the sophomore on a cut. O'Kane double-pumped on the doorstep to beat the goalie for the go-ahead tally at 1:59. Brockport won the ensuing draw control and got off one shot-on goal which was saved by Angela Ponto. After a failed Oswego clear, the Golden Eagles tried to find a cutter but Lange caused a turnover with a blocked pass that was gathered by Zeina Akl, allowing the Lakers to run out the clock.

Oswego stormed out of the gates, notching the game's first four goals over the opening 6:51. Brockport answered that stretch with a six-goal run of its own, grabbing a 6-4 advantage at 11:04. Oswego countered with two goals of its own to knot the contest at 6-6 with 7:58 to play in the first half. In those waning moments, Brockport outscored Oswego 2-1 for an 8-7 edge at the break.

The Lakers again started hot, finding the back of the net for the stanza's first three goals. Again the Golden Eagles answered with three-consecutive scores of their own, regaining a lead at 11-10 with 12:19 to play. Oswego then scored three of the game's final four goals to claim the victory.

Pacing all players in goals were O'Kane and Esther Gabriel, each scoring five times. Gabriel also led all players with seven draw controls. Saturday's highest point-getter was freshman Teresa Shattuck, who tallied six points all on assists. Also finishing with a multiple-point outing was senior Erannan Shattuck with a goal and an assist. Classmates Lindsey Eggers and Jayme McCreary both recorded one goal to round out the Laker scorers.

Ponto stopped 10 shots between the pipes for Oswego to go along with a game-high six ground balls.

Prior to Saturday's contest, Oswego honored its seven seniors for the contributions to the program: E. Shattuck, Gabriel, McCreary, Eggers, Lange, Heather Titanic and Erin Ganley.
