Lakers Drop Two Tough Conference Battles

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team dropped both contests to New Paltz and Geneseo—3-1—on Saturday. Oswego is now 9-7 on the year and is 1-2 in the SUNYAC.

New Paltz 3, Oswego 1 (25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21)

After dropping the first two sets of the match, Oswego gained some footing by winning the third set 25-23 before eventually succumbing in four.

Megan Russell led the team offensively by tallying nine kills in the match and maintained a .421 attack percentage. She was closely following by Ariel Murawski and Emma Moriarty, who each put away seven balls.

Oswego's players were helped by a mix of seniors Lauren Edwards and Lindsey Champitto. The duo contributed with 16 and 14 assists, respectively. Rina Qelaj added three of her own, while also totaling 26 digs.

Moriarty contributed three aces in the match and Champitto tallied two free points of her own.
 
Geneseo 3, Oswego 1 (25-21, 25-19, 20-25, 25-12)

In the afternoon match, Oswego followed the same script by winning the third set, but overall falling in four sets.

Murawski and Russell were again at the top of the kill's leaderboard for the Lakers with nine apiece. They were joined by Meaghan Roefs who tallied eight of her own.

Assist duty was handled by Edwards (14) and Champitto (16), with the latter making a couple more sets to awaiting players.

Similar to the first match, Qelaj was again the leader on the defensive end with 21 digs. Champitto (16) and Edwards (11) combined to record 27 digs.

Oswego will have 10 days off before return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6 at home against Clarkson University.
