OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team moved to 2-0 on the year with a 1-0 shutout of Nazareth College under the lights of Laker Turf Stadium on Saturday night. It is the first time the Lakers started a season with two-straight wins in over 10 years. Nazareth drops to 0-2 with the loss to Oswego.
Saturday's only tally came from freshman
Kendra Walker who scored her first-collegiate goal. After a shot ricocheted off a defender, Walker was able to settle the ball on her stick and beat the Golden Flyer goalie. The forward's goal came with less than 10 minutes to play in the opening half and the Laker defense protected it the rest of the way.
Anchoring the stingy Oswego defense was goaltender
Sarita Charap. The junior was able to make six saves to earn her fourth-career shutout and her second triumph of 2016.
Oswego owned the statistical edge over Nazareth, outshooting the Golden Flyers 14-9 while taking 10 more penalty corners (13-3).
The Lakers will return to action after a week off when they host Wells College at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12.
