Volleyball Sweeps Saturday to Move to 3-0

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team swept its competition in its 2016 tournament with two victories on Saturday in Max Ziel Gymnasium. Oswego is now 3-0 on the year and will put its winning streak on the line at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in a nonconference matchup at Ithaca College.

Following the tournament's conclusion on Saturday, Lakers Emma Moriarty and Ariel Murawski were named to the All-Tournament Team, with Moriarty taking home Most Valuable Player honors.

Oswego 3, Sage 0:

Oswego jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage, taking the first set 25-19. Although the second set went to the Lakers by a larger margin, it featured the team's grit. Falling behind 10-3 early in the second, Oswego rattled off 22 of the game's next 31 points to capture a 25-18 win and a stronghold on the match. The squad capped a straight-set triumph with a 25-20 edge in the third set.

Ariel Murawski, the reigning SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, played a brilliant match, recording a team-high 12 kills with no errors on 26 attempts for a .462 hitting percentage. She also aided the effort with five digs. Leading the digs column was senior Lauren Edwards (16) followed by Jessica Long (14) and Lindsey Champitto (12). The classmate tandem of Edwards and Champitto paced Oswego's assists category, finishing with 15 and 14, respectively.
On defense, Alison Sullivan had two of the Lakers' six block assists, with Megan Russell, Emma Moriarty, Isabella Winklestine and Lauren Fie each recorded one.

Oswego 3, Anna Maria 1:

Murawski matched her match one output with another 12-kill outing. Champitto (17), Rina Qelaj (15) and Edwards (12) combined for 44 of the Lakers' 70 digs in the contest. Edwards and Champitto again split the setting duties, dishing out 19 and 15, respectively. Moriarty (9) and Sarah Braddon (8) paired for 17 kills in the afternoon matchup, both narrowly missing double-digits in the column.
