Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Koons' Goals Aid In Bogucki's First-Career Shutout

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team defeated the Hamilton College Continentals, 2-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. The victory pushes the Lakers record to one game above .500 at 2-1. Hamilton falls to 0-1 after its first contest of the season.

Evan Bogucki started his first-career game in goal and was forced to earn his first-career save the hard way. In the 25th minute of the contest, an Oswego handball in the box led to a penalty-kick for Hamilton. The Continental player kicked a shot to the left side of the goal where Bogucki, guessing correctly, dove to make the crucial save.

The sophomore goal keeper recorded five saves in the start and did not allow a score. Subsequently, Bogucki also tallied his first-career shutout in his 90 minutes in the net.

Minutes after the penalty-kick save, Zack Koons provided all of the offense the Lakers would need. Jason Hayes found the freshman cutting to the net and with a perfect touch-pass was able to help Oswego get on the board.

Less than three minutes later, Koons was back on the case. This time the Rochester, N.Y. native soared through the air targeting the ball, which came off a header from a Hamilton defender. Koons unleashed on the ball, crushing it into the right-hand corner of the goal for his second goal of the day and third of the year.

Oswego's defense held strong for the rest of the first half and the second half to secure the 2-0 victory.

Men's soccer returns to action on Friday for their first away contest of the season. The Lakers travel to Grantham, Pennsylvania for the Messiah tournament, which will begin with a matchup against Franklin & Marshall College at 7 p.m. on Friday.
