Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

No. 3 Lakers Thump Golden Eagles At Home

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's ice hockey team throttled the Brockport Golden Eagles 10-1 on Friday evening at the Marano Campus Center Arena. No. 3/3 Oswego improves to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the conference, while Brockport falls to 6-10-1 and 4-6-0.

Oswego scored early and often in this contest, tallying 10 goals for the first time in well over two years. The last time was a 10-2 win over Fredonia on Nov. 1, 2014.

Mitchell Herlihey started off the scoring just 2:37 into the contest. The junior forward found himself alone, zigged, zagged and caught the goalie leaning right before he slapped it past his left side. After an Oswego player was sent to the box for tripping 10 seconds earlier, Herlihey's goal was of the short-handed fashion.

The Lakers special teams unit starred throughout the contest, adding another short-handed goal late in the third period. On the penalty kill, Oswego stopped the Golden Eagles on all five opportunities. Meanwhile, the Lakers were effective on their power play chances, notching a couple of scores on four chances.

Before Brockport knew it, the Lakers added another goal. Chris Waterstreet punched in a rebound shot, after the goalie stopped his first attempt to make it 2-0. Joey Davies dealt out his first of two assists on the evening and with a goal apiece in the second and third stanzas, skated to a four-point night.

Also scoring in the first was Matt Galati – in the 14th minute – and TJ Sneath – at the 17:48 mark.

The nationally-ranked Lakers did not relent in the second period, doubling up their first period total to make it an 8-0 game through 40 minutes. Andrew Barton scored twice, while Davies and Joey Scorpio added their first of the night.

Scorpio's tally was the first of his career and the Elmwood Park, Ill. native left no time to celebrate as he scored the team's final tally as well.

Matt Zawadzki played a near-perfect game in goal, recording 15 saves and allowing a single score in his 59-plus minutes played.

Men's ice hockey returns to action on the road at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening as they take on Geneseo.
