Oswego Battles Tough At Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team dropped a 55-44 contest to host Cortland on Saturday evening at Corey Gym. With the defeat, the Lakers fall to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the SUNYAC while the Red Dragons go to 8-9, 7-3.

Oswego held Cortland to sub-20-percent shooting in the first half, managing to trail by only two, 20-18, at halftime. However, the Red Dragons came out of the break a new team and turned in a 23-10 quarter, which was too much for the Lakers to recover from.

Alison Nunziato was the high-scorer for the Lakers with 13 points on 5-of-10 (50%) shooting from the field. Nine of her points came via the 3-ball as she managed a 50 percent clip from beyond the arc as well. Also in the double-digits for Oswego was Rachael Windhausen, who tallied 11 points. The sophomore managed a solid 4-of-8 (50%) from the field, while corralling six rebounds, blocking three shots and dishing out an assist to finish off her stat line.

The Lakers won both the first and four quarters pointwise, but the margins were not enough to hold off the Red Dragon team. Oswego won the turnover battle by one (17-16) and consequently also scored more points off loose balls.

Women's basketball returns to action for a weekend of home conference action against the Brockport Golden Eagles and the Geneseo Knights. Oswego starts with Brockport at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
