Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Lakers Rack Up Seven Goals In Teal Game Win

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 3/3 Oswego men's ice hockey team defeated the Cortland Red Dragons 7-3 behind goals scored by six different players in the teams annual "Team Game," which helps raise awareness for ovarian cancer. Oswego improves to 15-3-1 overall and earns a couple of conference points with the win bring its record to 10-1-1. Cortland falls to 8-10-1 and 4-6-0.

Led by David Ferreira, the Lakers came out of the opening faceoff scorching hot. Ferreira burst open the scoring by ripping a snap shot from the far side of the ice. Not even two minutes later, the junior forward tallied the third goal of the game, providing the bookends to Joey Scorpio's score at the 2:34 mark.

Oswego came back to Earth, but after Cortland pulled within one at 3-2 after back-to-back scores to end the first period and begin the middle stanza, the nationally-ranked Lakers heated up again. This time in it was red-hot Joey Davies – who has now tallied eight goals in his last five contests played – with the eventual game-winner and Josh Zizek in rapid succession. The tandem found the netting twice in a matter of 1-minute and 37-seconds to make it a 5-2 game.

Cortland notched one more score on a power play opportunity about midway through the second, but that was all it would get. Kristoffer Brun and Shawn Hulshof provided insurance for the Lakers, combining to complete the seven goal score line. The latter also dealt out three assists – on Ferreira's second goal, Davies' tally and Brun's score – to earn a four-point night.

On special teams, Oswego killed 3-of-5 extra-man opportunities. In the face off column, Zizek led the home team with 14 wins in 18 chances. Overall, the Lakers came away with 41-of-73 possible pucks.

David Jacobson earned his eighth victory on the season between the pipes, collecting 12 saves in 60 minutes of action.

Men's ice hockey will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday as they host the Potsdam Bears to open Whiteout Weekend.
