Swimming and Diving Sweeps Oneonta on Saturday

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up victories over visiting Oneonta on Saturday in Laker Pool. With the wins, the men's team stays perfect at 2-0 while the women move back to .500 at 1-1.

For the women, the Lakers earned their first victory in the eighth event, the 50-yard free. Hannah Jensen clocked a 26.17 to win by .05 over her Red Dragon counterpart. Four events later on the 1-meter diving board, Megan Maquet and Miranda Frascatore went 1-2 with totals of 221.05 and 217.85, respectively. Junior Riley Synan made it two-straight event wins in the 14th event, collecting the top spot in the 100-yard fly (1:00.66). Jensen grabbed her second victory of the day in the 100-yard back while sophomore teammate Kayla Merrill took runner-up. The 3-meter board led to another 1-2 Laker finish, as Maquet and Frascatore mirrored their 1-meter performance. The women's final event win came in the relays as Jensen, Synan, Kelsey Oliverio and Logan Turner teamed for a 200-yard free triumph with a time of 1:44.82.

On the men's side, Oswego started with a 200-yard medley relay win from Luis Perez, JJ Alaniz, Walker Snowden and Ryan Kreuser. Two events later, Daniel Rodriguez and Nate McBurney went 1-2 in the 1000-yard free. Nicholas Weber made it three-straight event victories with a 200-yard free top finish. Alexander Davie continued the winning ways for a fourth-consecutive triumph with a 22.36 time in the 50-yard free. Alaniz kept it up in the ninth event with a 200-yard IM victory and later won the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:01.83. Rodriguez also picked up a second win on the day, collecting the top spot in the 500-yard free (4:58.95).

Luke Snyder took first in both the 1- and 3-meter diving board competitions, scoring 243.10 in the former and 238.10 in the latter.

The day ended as it started for the men, with a relay win in the 200-yard free. Davie, Weber, Snowden and Kreuser combined for the winning time of 1:29.09.

Oswego will return to the water at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Aurora, N.Y. to face the Wells College Express.
