Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Lakers Down Fredonia with Third Period Eruption

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's ice hockey team took home a thrilling 5-3 win over Fredonia on Saturday night to remain unbeaten in SUNYAC play. With the win, Oswego improves to 5-1-0 this season and 3-0-0 in conference action, while Fredonia falls to 3-3-1 overall and 2-2-0 in conference games.

With less than five minutes to go in the first period, the Lakers took the lead. Joseph Molinaro set up Cameron Berry with a pass from behind the net, and Berry stuffed it past the Blue Devil goalie to put the Lakers up 1-0. Berry, who scored a goal and collected an assist in the Lakers' 4-3 win over Buffalo State the previous night, has recorded points in each of his past five games.

After three goals by the Blue Devils, the Lakers answered with four of their own in the third period. First, Aaron Huffnagle fed the puck to Tanner Spink, who caught the Blue Devil goalie leaning to his left, sending the puck past him into the right side of the net.

Then, Oswego added two power-play goals. Huffnagle was in on the action again with 11:58 to go in the third period. Without a single Fredonia defenseman on him, the sophomore sent the puck through traffic into the Blue Devil net to tie the game.

The go-ahead goal for the Lakers was scored by Josh Zizek. Sliding in front of the net, Zizek was able to put the puck past the Blue Devil goalie to give the Lakers a 4-3 lead. The sophomore extended the Laker lead exactly seven minutes later with an empty-net goal.

Cedric Hansen started his third game of the season in the net for the Lakers. The sophomore notched 19 saves.

The Lakers will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 when they travel to Geneseo to face the Knights.
