WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team opened a two-game trip to Williams College with a 5-0 loss on Saturday night. Oswego now owns a 3-5-0 overall record while the Ephs earn their first victory for a 1-2 mark.
Despite outshooting Williams 28-26 in the contest, the Lakers were unable to overcome a four-goal first period by the Ephs. In the opening frame, Williams was able to score two even-strength goals, a power-play goal and a shorthanded goal. Oswego answered by holding a 10-6 shot advantage in the middle period but were unable to cut the four-goal deficit. Both teams attempted 10 shots in the final 20 minutes, with Williams adding a tally at nearly the half-way mark.
Jean-marie Padden and
Jordan Emerson paced the Lakers with four shots apiece while
Emma Morisette and
Philomena Teggart each had two on-goal chances.
In net,
Amber Samonek made 21 saves during the loss, making six saves in each of the first two periods before stopping 10 in the last frame.
The two squads will faceoff again on Sunday, with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m.
