POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's swimming and diving team stayed perfect on the 2017-18 season with a close 150-138 triumph at Clarkson University on Saturday afternoon. Oswego is now 4-0 on the campaign while the Golden Knights drop to 1-1.
Daniel Rodriguez,
JJ Alaniz and
Luis Perez each accounted for a pair of Laker victories on the day. Rodriguez – a sophomore – earned Oswego's first victory in the fourth event with a 800-meter free time of 8:57.08. He went on to capitalize on another nine team points with a top finish in the 400-meter free (4:22.37). In the eighth event, Perez clocked a 1:02.35 in the 100-meter backstroke for a win by less than a second (1:02.35). The freshman won the same stroke of the 200-meter variety later in the meet, touching the wall in 2:15.37.
Alaniz won the 200-meter IM by just shy of three seconds, defeating his freshman classmate Perez. That came just eight events after Alaniz took the top time in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:36.58).
Other Lakers claiming first-place finishes were
Nicholas Weber and
Alex Davie. The former garnered the day's sixth event – the 200-meter free – with a time of 2:01.81. Davie won the 50-meter version of that stroke, with the clock showing 25.31 at the end of the sophomore's race.
Oswego will put its perfect mark on the line at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Alfred, N.Y. to face the Alfred State Pioneers.
