ST. LAWRENCE, N.Y. — The Oswego State men's basketball team defeated St. Lawrence, 100-63, on Friday night, earning Coach Jason Leone his 200th victory of his career. With the win, the Lakers improve to 5-4 this season, while the Saints fall to 2-6.
Oswego buried 19 3-pointers against the Saints, breaking the old program record for the most 3-pointers in a game. Last season, the Lakers set the previous record by making 18 in their 104-69 win over SUNY Maritime on Nov. 18.
Ian Schupp led the Lakers in their barrage of threes, putting up six. Two treys behind Schupp was sophomore Brandan Gartland, who shot a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. As a team, Oswego made 19 of the 34 3-pointers it attempted, for a percentage of 55.9.
Schupp and Gartland each contributed a team-high 20 points to the Lakers' offensive efforts. Oswego's offense was dominant the entire game, never surrendering the lead. Less than two minutes before clinching their victory, the Lakers were up by 41 points, their largest lead of the night. The 100-63 win is the biggest margin of victory for Oswego so far this season.
Coach Leone and the Lakers will look to continue their four-game win streak when they participate in the Utica College Tournament from Dec. 29-30.
