Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Oswego Unable To Wear Down The Blue Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team dropped a neck-and-neck – 76-75 – contest to the host Fredonia Blue Devils on Friday evening. Oswego falls to 17-5 overall and 13-2 in the SUNYAC, while the Blue Devils improve to 10-13 and 7-9 in league-play.

Following a Fredonia jumper, which rolled in to give the home team the one-point lead, Brian Sortino collected the ball. Driving down the hardwood, the senior guard found a momentary opening, but was unable to get the game-winning bucket to fall.

Oswego started the game in charge, owning a 36-29 advantage as the teams went to the locker rooms. However, the Blue Devils returned from the half on fire, taking as much as an 11-point lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the game. Despite this, the Lakers fought back and showed incredible resilience as Fredonia got 70 percent (21-of-30) of its second-half shots to fall.

Sortino led the Lakers with 34 points on the evening, while clearing three boards and dishing out two assists. The Fairport, N.Y. native hit five shots from beyond the arc and sank 9-of-14 attempts from the charity stripe.

Also playing well was Mykelle Krecko, who notched his seventh double-double of the year with a 15-point and 14-rebound performance. He shot 7-for-10 (70%) from the field in 33 minutes of playing time.

Men's basketball returns to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the backend of weekend SUNYAC action as they travel up I-90 for a contest at Buffalo State.
