ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-4 contest to the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Oswego falls to 2-3, while RIT improves to 4-2.
Following three-straight RIT goals to open the contest, Oswego bounced back, answering two of them.
Teresa Shattuck continued her record-setting pace, collecting point number 33 for the season with a goal at the 19:05 mark of the first half. The sophomore was unassisted and cut the Laker deficit to 3-1.
Less than a minute later – 51 seconds –
Kelsey Henderson cut the lead to one. The Cazenovia, N.Y. native notched her fourth score of the year. RIT answered with six goals in a row to put the contest away as Oswego was unable to recover.
Nicole Granteed and
Toni Laneve added goals for the Lakers late in the second half. Granteed's goal was her first of the season and the first of her career. The defender drove toward the goal and found the back of the net, unassisted, at the 14:56 mark of the latter period. Laneve received an assist from
Gemma O'Kane for her 10
th goal of the year on a man-up opportunity with just over three minutes remaining.
Angela Ponto started and played the entire 60 minutes in goal. She recorded the loss, while making six saves.
Women's lacrosse will make a return trip to Rochester for a contest at 4 p.m. on Monday against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets.
