UTICA, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-10 nonconference contest at the Utica Pioneers on Wednesday afternoon. Oswego falls to 3-5 on the year, while Utica now sits above the even mark at 4-3.
Following a pair of Pioneer goals to start off the action, Oswego responded by tying it up at 2-2.
Tyler Nason and
Kyle Bacon were the goal scorers for the Lakers. This sparked a trend, which carried throughout the contest; Utica would score to take the lead and Oswego would answer, until the final buzzer, which saw the visiting team fall short.
Utica surged ahead again to close out the first period with goals from Brickman House and Ryan Desveaux. The latter added another tally in the opening minutes of the second quarter to give the Pioneers a 5-2 lead. Minutes later,
Caleb Alford and
Bobby Emerson each scored to pull the Lakers within one at 5-4.
The Lakers and Pioneers traded the next four tallies scored as
Jarrod Wilkom and Bacon scored their first and second of three goals each on the day, respectively.
Upon going down 12-7 with just over four minutes remaining on the game clock, Oswego attempted to make a late run, but fell short. Bacon notched his third score with 2:32 left, while Wilkom scored twice in rapid succession with goals coming just 18 seconds apart.
Wilkom (5), Alford (3) and Bacon (3) combined for 11 of the Lakers 15 points collected during the afternoon. Wilkom now leads the team with 22 points as Bacon is just shy of his teammates' total at 18 points.
Wyatt Russo played the entire 60 minutes in the goal, making six saves in the loss.
Oswego returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday for its first conference matchup as it hosts the Cardinals of Plattsburgh at Laker Turf Stadium.
