Hamilton & Hot Laker Bats Lift Oswego Past Oneonta

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 9/10 Oswego State baseball team defeated the Oneonta Red Dragons 12-2 in game one of a three-game set on Friday afternoon. Oswego moves to 26-8 overall and 13-3 in the conference, while the Red Dragons fall to 14-18 and 5-11 in the SUNYAC.

Following a 1-2-3 top of the first inning on the mound by Mitchell Cavanagh, Oswego went to work to get its starter some run support. The Lakers tallied four hits and scored five times, before adding five hits and four runs in the second.

Oneonta's starter got just three outs, while attempting to weather the brutal Laker attack. With the bases loaded after Wes Randall walked, Eric Hamilton singled and Eli Holton walked, Zach Kollar singled through the right side to drive in a pair of runners. In a later plate appearance, Kollar collected another base hit and RBI.

Later in the frame, Alex Brown earned an RBI the tough way as he was plunked with the bags full of Lakers. During the following at-bat, Zach Whelan singled to drive in two more runs.

After the Lakers batted around in the first, Hamilton led off the second with his second hit of the day. He ended up going 5-for-5 with three runs scored and increased his batting average to a preposterous .431.

During the inning, Mike Dellicarri collected his first of two homers on the afternoon, while he also drove in four runners. Making it a back-to-back effort, Eli Holton crushed a bomb down the left-field line for his fifth homer of the year.
Also collecting base knocks during the Lakers 16-hit and 11-run onslaught was Josh Hoagland (1), Robert Donnelly (1), Kyle Dinges (1) and Lukas Olsson (1).

Cavanagh earned his eighth win of the year on the mound (8-0), allowing a single earned run over seven innings of work. Combining to toss the final two frames, Mike Abrams and Patrick Gosney got three outs each and did not allow a hit.

Baseball returns to the diamond at 12 p.m. on Saturday for a doubleheader against the same Oneonta Red Dragons. Oswego will look to lock up the top seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Championship, while also taking time to honor its 11 senior athletes. Senior Day festivities will begin around 11:30 a.m.
