CANTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team suffered just its first loss of the season 2-1 at St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon. With the defeat, the Lakers fall to 3-1-1 on the year while the Saints improve to 4-2-0.
St. Lawrence was able to capitalize right before and after the halftime, scoring just enough for the victory. At 41:56, the Saints broke on to the board to head into the locker room ahead 1-0 at the half. Just 3:42 into the second period, St. Lawrence tallied another goal, which proved to be the game-winner.
Oswego start its comeback effort less than 10 minutes later as
Alexa Restante put the Lakers on the board. Sophomore
Gianna Perri notched her first point in an Oswego uniform with an assist to Restante at 57:34, which was the senior's second goal of the season. In the final 30 minutes, Oswego attempted five more shots but were unable to find the back of the net for an equalizer.
Despite suffering her first loss as a Laker,
Emma Allen was solid between the pipes all afternoon. The sophomore made 14 saves, 11 more than her previous season- and career-highs. Allen's mark on the year now mirrors Oswego's at 3-1-1.
Oswego will look to rebound in its next contest when it opens conference action with a 3 p.m. start on Friday at SUNYAC-foe New Paltz.
