NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team defeated New Paltz on Friday night, 84-69, behind
Tyler Pierre's double-double. With the victory, the Lakers move to 7-5 overall and win their fourth-straight conference game to improve to 4-1. The Hawks fall to 4-8 this season and 1-4 in SUNYAC play.
After a closely contested first half, the Lakers pulled away in the second. Less than four minutes into the second half and down by four,
Ian Schupp's two-straight baskets started Oswego on a run of 10 unanswered points. The Lakers protected their lead for the rest of the night.
It was a team effort for the Lakers, with five players scoring in double-digits.
Brandan Gartland's five 3-pointers put him at the top of the scoreboard with 19 points, while
Jamir Ferebee contributed 18 of his own. Pierre turned in 13 points and 11 rebounds on the night for his third double-double of the season. The junior is averaging 9.4 rebounds per game, a team high.
Oswego looks to continue its strong conference play at 3 p.m. on Saturday, when it faces the Oneonta Red Dragons.
