Valiant Laker Comeback Falls Short in Double OT

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team's 2018 campaign came to a close with a double-overtime loss to Hamilton College on Tuesday afternoon. Despite the game featuring five goals, only two players between the squads found their ways into the scoring column.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Hamilton 3, Oswego 2 (2OT)
  • Location: Laker Soccer Field – Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records: Hamilton (8-4-3)  |  Oswego (6-8-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego's Lynsey Roth and Hamilton's Cat Gambino combined for the tilt's five tallies, with Roth notching two and Gambino posting a hat trick.
  • Roth's pair of goals placed her atop the team's leaderboard in both points (15) and goals (7) to end the season, surpassing Mackenzie Schaffner (13, 6) in both categories.
  • The sophomore's goals were crucial, as they erased a two-goal, halftime deficit.
  • At 56:28, Audrey Burbidge sent a corner kick into the box where senior classmate Chloe Lonergan headed the ball.
  • Roth was able to tap Lonergan's header through the keeper's legs to cut the Continental's advantage to one.
  • Less than 10 minutes later, Roth dribbled past two defenders and ripped a left-footed shot into the upper right 90, out of the reach of Hamilton's diving keeper, knotting the contest.
  • Neither team was able to score in the final 25 minutes of regulation or the first overtime period, but Gambino was able to settle a ball in the box in the 104th minute to steal the victory.
  • Emma Allen made five saves between the pipes for Oswego.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers finish 2018 with a 6-8-3 mark overall and a 2-5-2 record in the SUNYAC. Oswego will return 18 players to its roster in 2019.
