OSWEGO, N.Y. – Senior
Ian Schupp scored a season-high 25 points to lead the Oswego State men's basketball team to a come-from-behind victory over Fredonia on Saturday afternoon at the Max Ziel Gymnasium by a score of 76-73. The Lakers improve to 12-11 on the season and 9-7 in the SUNYAC while the Blue Devils fall to 4-19 (2-15).
The game came down to the wire as Oswego found themselves down 73-72 with 47 seconds left after a Fredonia 3-pointer. Oswego would take two attempts at the lead as Schupp missed a jumper for the lead but fellow senior
Jamir Ferebee grabbed the offensive rebound and drove into the lane before dishing to
Tyler Pierre for the go-ahead bucket. After intercepting the Blue Devils' inbounds pass and getting fouled, Schupp coolly drained two free throws to cement the win.
Oswego came out strong in the first half in scoring the first six points. Schupp and Ferebee baskets would push the Laker lead to eight at 31-23 with just over seven minutes left in the half. Fredonia would make seven- and six-point runs in the last six minutes to grab a 42-39 lead at the half.
The Blue Devils would push their lead as high as nine just six minutes into the second half. Oswego made similar six- and seven-point runs, culminated by Ferebee hitting all three free throws when he was fouled behind the arc to give Oswego the 65-64 lead with with 3:33 left. The game would feature four lead changes and two ties before Oswego finally put it away in the last minute.
Joining Schupp in double figures was Ferebee (18), Pierre (13), and
Josh Ivey (10).
Liam Sanborn led the Lakers with five assists on the night.
