Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Laker Comeback Effort Spoiled by Fourth Quarter

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team battled hard to a 61-46 loss after a hot fourth quarter by the Brockport Golden Eagles on Friday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 7-17 on the year and 4-13 in the league while Brockport improves to 12-12, 10-7.

Brockport led for the majority of the game but Oswego kept the Golden Eagles in sight through three quarters. After trailing 29-23 at the break, the Lakers were able to outscore Brockport 18-16 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to just four points with 10 minutes remaining. Oswego could not find a rhythm in the final period, however, as the Golden Eagles were able to hold the Lakers to five points.

Courtney Ameele paced the Lakers on offense with 14 points while classmate Zana Dillard had the second most with eight. Dillard missed a double-double by just one bucket, as she tied for the team-lead on the glass with 11 boards to complement the eight points. Junior Rachael Windhausen also had 11 rebounds for Oswego but her real mark was left in shot alterations. The forward turned away six Brockport shot attempts, setting her new career-high for blocks in a single-game.

Spreading out the offense was Raiven Encarnacion with four assists to tie for the game-high. Windhausen also turned in two helpers while Erin Gantley, Ameele and Dillard each had one.

Oswego was very secure with the ball on offense, turning it over just 11 times – well below its season average (19.4).

On Saturday, the Lakers will close their season by hosting No. 23 Geneseo for Senior Day. Prior to the game, Oswego will honor its pair of seniors – Ameele and Dillard – with tip-off time scheduled for 1 p.m.
