POTSADM, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team fell to Potsdam, 3-1, on the road on Friday night. With the loss, the Lakers move to 10-11-2 on the season and 6-8-1 in NEWHL play, while Potsdam improves to 12-10-2 overall and 4-9-2 in conference action.
Jean-marie Padden, who led the Lakers with six shots, scored the Lakers' lone goal. Teammate
Sarah Grupp was able to steal the puck from Potsdam and send it to Padden, who took a shot from the right side and put it away in the Potsdam net.
Oswego kept Potsdam off the scoreboard in the first period, with goalie
Mariah Madrigal making seven saves, but the Bears were able to score twice in the second period and once in the third. At the end of the night, the senior collected a total of 26 saves.
The Lakers consistently pressured the Bears throughout the night. In the first period, Oswego took 11 shots, in the second period it added on 14 more and it tacked on 16 in the third period for a total of 41. Oswego ultimately outshot Potsdam, 41-29.
Next, the Lakers and Bears head to Oswego to finish up their two-game series and wrap up the regular season. The teams will face off at 2 p.m. on Saturday as Oswego honors its seniors for Senior Day.
