MORRISVILLE, N.Y. -- The Oswego State men's lacrosse team earned its second win of the 2018 slate with a 9-6 victory over the host Morrisville State College Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. Oswego improves to 2-1 on the year while the Mustangs fall to 0-4.
On Saturday, Oswego only allowed Morrisville to score back-to-back goals once while the Lakers strung runs of three, two and three together. The Mustangs opened the scoring but Oswego knotted the game less than a minute later on an in assisted
Caleb Alford goal. A little less than four minutes later, Alford was back at it again, bitching his fourth goal of the year to give the Lakers their first lead of the tilt. Oswego did not surrender the advantage for the remainder of the game.
Tyler Nason found
Kyle Bacon 40 seconds later at 7:13 to make it a 3-1 margin for Oswego. After the Mustangs cut the deficit to one,
Tim Schof scored his first of the year at 4:54 to send the Lakers to the locker rooms with a 4-2 lead at half.
Robbie Connors made his presence known in the second stanza, scoring Oswego's fits three goals, extending into the fourth quarter. Each of his three goals were in assisted and gives him six tallies on the year.
The Lakers' final two goals came from
Mark Niechcial and Bacon in the final quarter, with Bacon's being helped by a pass from
Bobby Emerson.
Freshman
Kevin O'Donnell stayed hot after 21 saves against nationally-ranked Ithaca on Wednesday, making nine stops against the Mustangs while allowing just six goals against.
Three Lakers finished with multiple caused turnovers, packed by
Seamus Burns' game-high four. Nason turned Morrisville over three times while Emerson forced two.
John Petrelli led all players with four ground balls while Burns, Schof, Alford, O'Donnell and
Keif Manuel each had three.
At the X,
Kyle O'Connor continued his dominance, winning 10-of-17 faceoffs. The sophomore's faceoff percentage on the year is now greater than 60-percent (60.4%).
The Lakers will now travel to Long Island, N.Y. to face St. Joseph's College at 5:30 on Tuesday.
