Baseball Falls Just Short Against Ithaca

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 21 Oswego State baseball team narrowly fell to Ithaca College, 3-2, in a nonconference matchup at home on Tuesday afternoon. With the outcome, Oswego moves to 21-9 on the season, while Ithaca improves to 18-13 overall.

Oswego put its first run on the board in the fifth inning. Zach Whelan singled to center field to start things off, moving to second on a wild pitch and stealing third. The senior came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Nicholson to cut Ithaca's lead to 2-1.

Two innings later, with Ithaca up 3-1, the Lakers notched their second run of the game. Lukas Olsson led off the inning by smacking a double to right field. A groundout by Kevin Hylas advanced Olsson to third, and another groundout by Whelan sent him home.

Olsson and Whelan both recorded multi-hit games for the Lakers. The pair collected two hits each.

On the mound, starting pitcher Bobby Zywicki allowed two earned runs over four innings pitched. Nick Demarco came in for three innings of relief, giving up a lone earned run while striking out three. Ronald Loomis closed out the game, tossing two scoreless innings. The Laker pitching staff did not surrender a walk to Ithaca.
