Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Seven Goal Run Sends Lakers Past Buffalo State

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team used a seven-goal stretch between the end of the first and beginning of the second half to cruise past Buffalo State 17-7 on Tuesday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego – which clinched a spot in the SUNYAC Championship over the weekend – improves to 9-5 overall and concludes its conference slate at 5-3. Seeding for the playoffs will be determined after Saturday's remaining league contests.

It was an even matchup through the first 20 minutes of the game, as the teams were knotted at 3-3. At 10:46 of the first half, sophomore Riley Jaquin scored the second of her career-high five goals to start a dominating Laker run. Oswego closed the first half with five-straight goals to hold an 8-3 advantage at the break. The Lakers tacked on two more to start the second stanza before Buffalo State notched its fourth goal. Oswego came right back with four-consecutive goals for a tie of its largest margin of the day at 14-4. Just like the start of the tilt, the two teams exchanged three goals to close out the 10-goal Laker victory.

While Jaquin paced the Lakers in scoring, Brigid Regin had the game's most point. The junior had a balanced afternoon with three goals to match her three assists. Freshman Kamryn Sherman was right behind Jaquin in the point column, finding the back of the net three times to go along with an assist.

Senior Gemma O'Kane and junior Teresa Shattuck both finished with three points but it different ways. O'Kane scored twice and helped on another Laker goal while Shattuck played her usual role of facilitator with three assists.

Shattuck's classmate Toni Laneve tallied two goals while sophomore Montana Garrett also had two points coming on a goal and an assist. Closing out the point scorers was transfer-junior Taylor Aiello, who notched her first goal as a Laker on a beautiful feed from Shattuck.

Shattuck made her presence known on the draw as well, controlling nine, which tied the total number of draws won by the Bengals.

On defense, Oswego caused 13 Buffalo State turnovers, with junior Danielle Walker having a game-high three. Regin and Laneve each had two caused turnovers while Garrett, Sherman, Zeina Akl, Seanna Laneve and goalie Angela Ponto had one apiece.

Ponto came away with a .500 save percentage in the win, stopping seven Bengal shots on-goal while allowing the same amount.

Oswego will close the regular season at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts SUNY Canton for Senior Day.
