GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team fell to the top-seeded Knights, 4-2, on a Friday morning with scattered rain in Geneseo. With the outcome, Oswego closes its season with a 19-15 record. The Lakers' 19 wins are their most in a season since 1981, when the team went 19-7.
Geneseo grabbed an early 2-0 lead, but the Lakers answered in the third. With one out in the inning,
Rebecca Vilchez started things off by driving a single up the middle.
Jessica Roe was then able to move Vilchez into scoring position with a groundout. The next batter,
Madelana Wrubel, ripped a double to left field to cut Geneseo's lead.
Angela Frampton kept the two-out rally going with a double to left of her own, tying the game.
In the fourth inning, the Knights managed to put up two more runs to gain a 4-2 lead, which held the rest of the contest.
Starting pitcher
Rebecca Vilchez allowed two earned runs over six innings of work for Oswego. The sophomore only surrendered one extra-base hit to the Knights the entire day.
At the plate, Wrubel, Frampton and
Emily Knowlden each collected two-hit games. Wrubel and Frampton notched a double and an RBI apiece.
With a 4-for-6 day at the plate against Oneonta as well, Wrubel earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
