Gartland's Buzzer Beater Downs Red Dragons

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Junior Brandan Gartland hit a 3-pointer as time expired to give the Oswego State men's basketball team a 72-69 road victory over Oneonta on Tuesday evening.  The win keeps the Lakers unbeaten in SUNYAC play with a 7-0 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego got out to a quick 9-3 lead within the first four minutes as Gartland and fellow guard Liam Sanborn scored all nine in the run.
  • The Red Dragons would eventually tie the game up at 15-15 with 13:48 left in the half and would push a lead to as high as seven with a 40-33 lead going into halftime.
  • Quinn Carey hit a pair of 3-pointers to start the second half and Tyler Pierre scored two layups inside to cut the lead to a single point five minutes into the half.
  • Five minutes later, Joe Sullivan gave Oswego the lead back on two made free throws at 52-51.
  • Over the course of the final ten minutes, neither team had a lead more than three points, with multiple lead changes and ties during that stretch.
  • With Oswego down 65-63 with two minutes to go, Sullivan hit a three to put the Lakers up by one.
  • After a Sanborn free throw and Oneonta jumper tied the game at 67-67 with forty-seven seconds left, Sanborn scored on a layup with twenty-three seconds left.
  • Oneonta put their own layup in with nine seconds left before Gartland propelled the Lakers to the win.
  • Sanborn led Oswego with 19 points while Sullivan had 16 and Gartland 15.  Pierre had nine rebounds on the defensive side.
  • Oswego shot the ball very well on Tuesday, hitting 55.6% from the floor and 50.0% from distance.

The Lakers return home on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with fellow conference member Plattsburgh.
