Lakers Fall to Hawks at Home

OSWEGO, N.Y. - Despite a double-double from Ramatoulaye Sy, the Oswego State women's basketball team dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) home contest to the New Paltz Hawks by a score of 72-51 on Tuesday evening at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

THE BASICS

  • Location:  Max Ziel Gymnasium, Laker Hall, SUNY Oswego - Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records:  New Paltz 7-4 (3-1 SUNYAC) | Oswego 1-11 (0-5 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was filled with offense as Oswego got early buckets in the paint by Rachael Windhausen, Quincey Zimmerman and Samantha Britton to get out to a 6-5 lead in the first four minutes.
  • After each team made a five-point run, the Hawks would hit a pair of 3-pointers and free throws to go up 18-11 with just under three minutes left in the quarter.
  • Oswego would close back to 23-19 in the final minutes on a Sarah Feminella layup and a pair of buckets from distance by guard Raiven Encarnacion.
  • In the second quarter, Sy would close the gap to 25-23 on two baskets before New Paltz started a pivotal 15-point explosion with two jumpers inside and three 3-pointers from their guards.
  • During second half action, the Lakers out-shot the Hawks 36.4% - 27.5% from the floor but were unable to cut into the lead.
  • On the boards, Oswego won the rebounding edge 49-35, but constant half-court pressure from New Paltz forced 29 turnovers that led to 34 points for the visitors.
  • Encarnacion led a trio of Lakers in double-figures with 14 points while Britton had 11 and Sy 10.  Windhausen added seven points and two blocks and junior Erin Gantley had five assists.
