Clutch Play Leads to Laker Sweep of Nazareth

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State volleyball team was able to overcome late deficits in both the second and third sets behind double-doubles from seniors Julia Flohr and Shauna O'Flaherty to sweep Nazareth College on Wednesday evening at the Max Ziel Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was all Oswego in the first as seniors Lauren Fie and Julia Flohr made two big serving runs to put the Lakers up 16-8.
  • The teams traded points for the rest of the set, with Oswego prevailing 25-15.
  • Control stayed with the Lakers in the second, up 10-7 when the Golden Flyers ran off nine straight to go up 16-10.
  • Down 20-16, sophomore Skylar Bechard ran off seven points of her own behind kills from Flohr, Fie and O'Flaherty in that stretch to help Oswego rally for the 25-22 victory.
  • Set three was close throughout with 13 ties and three leads changes.
  • Oswego took a 19-16 lead on a kill from junior Melissa Lussier and a pair of Nazareth errors.
  • After Nazareth came back to tie it at 22-22, O'Flaherty recorded her final kill, Lussier teamed with senior Shannon Stone on a block, and Lussier ended the match with her own kill.
  • Flohr tallied 29 assists and 10 digs for her third straight double-double, adding six kills on 12 attempts to her stat line.
  • O'Flaherty had 11 digs along with her 13 kills to reach the mark.
  • Lussier and Fie each added six kills while senior Sarah Massie and Stone each had three.
  • Liberos Emily Costa (17 digs) and Skylar Bechard (12 digs) helped hold Nazareth to a .038 attack perecentage.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers return to action at 6 p.m. this Friday when they travel north to take on Plattsburgh in league play.
