FREDONIA, N.Y. - Sophomore
Tyson Kirkby used a last minute power play goal to send the No. 12 Oswego State men's ice hockey team past Fredonia by a score of 5-4 on Saturday night in Fredonia. The goal is Kirkby's third of the season and his second game winner of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers took the early lead with a Derek Brown unassisted goal just 1:46 into the contest.
- Fredonia answered back with a pair of goals later in the first period, including one via power play to take a 2-1 advantage into the intermission.
- It was another quick strike by Oswego in the second as senior Jody Sullivan scored just 59 seconds into the period on assists from Travis Broughman and Anthony Passero - the two top point scorers for the Lakers this season.
- Senior Joey Scorpio gave Oswego the lead back at 3:40 on a goal assisted by Tanner Spink.
- With just under four minutes left in the period, Passero made it 4-2 for the Lakers.
- Tyler Antonucci made it two straight games with a point as he earned the primary assist and Michael Gillespie picked up the secondary assist.
- Behind a goalie change in the third period that led to 12 saves, Fredonia was able to score goals at 6:51 and 17:07 to tie the game.
- At 19:14 on the clock, Fredonia took a costly roughing penalty and Kirkby made them pay just five seconds later with his game winner.
- Senior Max Novick and Passero got the assists on the goal, allowing Passero to retake the scoring lead for the Lakers with 14 points on the season, one ahead of Broughman's 13.
- Senior goalie David Richer made 23 saves to earn the win while classmate Mitch Emerson secured 13 faceoffs to lead the Lakers.
- Oswego has won 17 of the last 20 matchups with the Blue Devils, including the last two.
- The victory also sends the Lakers into first place in the SUNYAC standings, a point ahead of Geneseo.
WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego returns home for the annual Pathfinder Bank/Oswego State Hockey Classic on January 3 at 7 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center Arena where they will take on St. Mary's University of Minnesota.
