Win at Brockport Clinches Top Seed For Lakers

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Oswego State men's basketball team used balanced scoring and efficient shooting to get back into the winning column with an 85-69 victory over the Brockport Golden Eagles.  The win, combined with a Plattsburgh loss to Oneonta tonight, means the Lakers clinch the top seed and will host the final four teams in the SUNYAC Championship Tournament next weekend at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

  • Location:  Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium, Tuttle North Complex - Brockport, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the opening six minutes, Oswego raced out to a 15-6 lead headlined by sophomore Liam Sanborn scoring 13 points on three 3-pointers and a pair of buckets.
  • After a pair of made jumpers by Julien Crittendon,  the inside duo of Tyler Pierre and Allen Durutovic scored the next 16 points inside for Oswego to keep the Lakers up 35-25 with 6:31 left in the half.
  • Brockport would score five straight but four points from Joe Sullivan and then three 3-pointers by senior Quinn Carey, all in the final two minutes of the half, would put Oswego up 50-34 heading into the break.
  • An 8-0 run by Brockport to open the second half cut the lead back under double-digits, but Pierre answered with a dunk to swing momentum back to the Lakers.
  • With the lead 56-46 and 13 minutes remaining, junior Brandan Gartland added 12 points over the next 10 minutes to keep Oswego comfortably in front.
