PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team's season came to an end, dropping its NEWHL semifinal matchup with nationally-ranked Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Skylar Byrne denied the Cardinals the shutout with her second goal of the season.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Plattsburgh 7, Oswego 1
Location: Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena – Plattsburgh, N.Y.
Records: Plattsburgh 24-2 I Oswego 10-13-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Byrne's tally came late into the second period, with under two minutes remaining, sparked by a spoiled Cardinal attempt to clear their zone. The score was the result of a short pass from Sara Cruise to a waiting Bailey Thomas shot from the blue line, deflected on goal by Byrne.
- Starting goaltender Rachael Farmer was able to hold Plattsburgh scoreless for the opening 10 minutes of the opening period, faltering on the Cardinal power play.
- Farmer played for a majority of the contest, making 23 saves during her 32:56 played.
- Coming in as relief, freshman netminder Cassie Shokar made 21 saves for the Lakers.
- Special teams was especially strong, going 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
- Oswego owned a slight advantage in faceoff wins (31-30), while putting up 18 shots, 17 of which went on goal.
