Oswego Hosts Hobart; Trip to Frozen Four at Stake

3/13/2019 11:52:00 AM

OSWEGO, N.Y. --The No. 5/5 Oswego State men's ice hockey team is set to host a NCAA Championship quarterfinal this Saturday in the Marano Campus Center Arena, welcoming No. 6/6 Hobart College for a 7 p.m. puck drop.

Oswego State (19-6-2) received an at-large bid from the NCAA Selection Committee and was one of four teams to receive a first-round bye, including SUNYAC-foe No. 2/2Geneseo, No. 1/1 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and No. 4/4 Norwich University.

Hobart currently sits at 20-7-2 on season, coming off a 2-1 victory over Plymouth State University in the first round of the NCAA Championship. The Statesmen finished as runner-ups in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC), losing in the title game to fellow tournament qualifier Norwich, 2-1.

Oswego holds a 35-4-2 record all time over Hobart, winning five of its last seven against the Statesmen. This will be the second meeting this season between the two teams, as the Lakers ousted the Statesmen 4-2 on Nov. 10 at home. First team All-SUNYAC honoree Anthony Passero had two points in the contest, recording an assist in the first period and a goal late in the second. Freshman Travis Broughman also tallied two assists, including one to junior Mitch Emerson in the final minute of regulation to secure the victory for the Lakers.

Oswego is led by its stellar power-play percentage (.267), which ranks fifth in the nation. Led by SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year Devin Campbell, the squad also ranks ninth in scoring defense, allowing just 2.00 goals per game.

This is Oswego's eight NCAA appearance in the last 10 seasons, hosting an opener for the sixth time in that span. The winner of this matchup will advance to the NCAA Championship semifinals next weekend, with an on-campus site to be determined following the outcomes of Saturday's quarterfinals action.

Ticket prices are $8 while SUNY Oswego students can purchase tickets for $4 with a valid ID. There are no complimentary passes for NCAA Championship games. Hobart fans are encouraged to select seats in section 53, which is directly behind the visitor's bench. Tickets are available online at tickets.oswego.edu, by phone at 315-312-3073 or by visiting the Marano Campus Center Box Office, which is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The box office will also open two hours prior to game time on Saturday.
