FERRUM, Va. – The Oswego State softball team kicked off their season by dropping a pair of games at Ferrum College in Virginia on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers fell by scores of 5-4 and 7-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first game, the Lakers got off to a promising start with three runs in the first inning of action. After a Rebecca Vilchez groundout, Oswego loaded the bases on an Erin Sweeney walk, Angela Frampton single and Emily Knowlden walk. Freshman Brianna Harrington walked to score Sweeney and senior Carly Lawless singled to drive in Frampton and Knowlden.
- Ferrum chipped away with two in the bottom of the third, one in the fourth and grabbed the lead at 4-3 with another in the fifth.
- In the top of the sixth, Harrington and Jessica Roe reached on a walk and a bunt single, then both advanced on a wild pitch. Lawless notched her third RBI on the day with a sacrifice fly to score Harrington.
- The Panthers were able to record an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.
- Roe went 2-for-3 in the game and Sweeney and Harrington both reached base twice via walk. Vilchez went five, giving up three earned runs while striking out two. Frampton (0-1) takes the loss despite striking out a pair and recording no earned runs.
- In game two, Ferrum scored four unearned runs in the second to take an early 7-0 lead after two innings.
- Oswego got on the board in the sixth when Sweeney singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. Harrington doubled to bring her in.
- Harrington pitched 4.2 innings, recording no earned runs and striking out two in her first pitching action of the season. Frampton moves to 0-2 with 1.1 innings of work.
- The Lakers got their leadoff batter on base in five-of-seven innings but Ferrum answered by holding Oswego to 3-for-17 from the plate with runners on base.
- Sweeney and Knowlden each went 2-for-3 in the second game to lead the Laker offense.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers return to action on Monday when they take on NYU at 11 AM and Stevens at 1:15 PM at the Randy Larson Complex in Plant, Florida.
