HOW IT HAPPENED
- Oswego found itself ahead by a goal as Jody Sullivan sunk a backhanded shot, helped along by Joey Scorpio in the opening-five minutes of the contest. A lead the Lakers would hold for a majority of the period.
- Junior Josh Zizek found his way onto the stat sheet as he collected a Michael Gillespie pass in front of the net, squeaking the puck by the left kicker of the Knights' goalie. Josh Nenadal recorded a helper on the goal that brought the Lakers within one, closing out the second period.
- Freshman Travis Broughman collected his game-tying tally midway through the final period, as goaltender Devin McDonald found himself stuck on his side, thanks to a on-target shot by Tanner Spink, fed by Anthony Passero.
- Netminder David Richer recorded several fantastic saves, recording 26 total during his time between the pipes.
- Oswego owned an advantage in faceoff wins, beating Geneseo 40-39 in that category.
- For their contributions throughout the SUNYAC Championships, Captain Devin Campbell and assistant-captain Zizek were named to the All-Tournament Team.
- The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. This year's men's ice hockey honoree is Cedric Hansen from Oswego.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers still have a chance of making the NCAA Tourney, ranking fourth in the PairWise polls before Saturday evening's contest. Their fate will be determined in the
2019 NCAA DIII Men's Ice Hockey Championship Selection Show taking place on Monday morning.
