Knowlden's Five Hits Not Enough as Lakers Fall

PLANT CITY, Fla. - Senior Emily Knowlden continued her hot start to 2019 with five more hits on Friday afternoon, but the Oswego State softball team was shut out by The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and New York University (NYU). It was the Lakers final games of their spring break trip.

THE BASICS
  • Final Scores:  TCNJ 9, Oswego 0  |  NYU 7, Oswego 0
  • Location:  Randy Larson Complex - Plant City, Fla.
  • Records:  TCNJ 11-5 | NYU 7-3 | Oswego 2-8
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Against the Lions, Oswego had runners aboard in each of the first four innings, but was unable to convert the at-bat to cash-in a score.
  • TCNJ scored in the first and third innings to take a 5-0 lead, then broke the game open with four more in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Knowlden went 2-for-2 while senior Sarah McCullough recorded Oswego's other hit.
  • Angela Frampton and Rebecca Vilchez each reached base by virtue of a walk.
  • In the NYU game, Knowlden went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lakers.
  • Senior Erin Sweeney was 2-for 4 and Jenna Gotte smacked a deep double that just missed clearing the fence.
  • Jessica Annello (0-1) led the Laker pitchers with a pair of strikeouts and Vilchez went two innings without yielding a run.
  • Knowlden finishes Oswego's southern trip hitting .533 and has already collected more hits (16) than she had in all of 2018.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers return home for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday when they host Clarkson University.
