Lakers Split Pair in Home-Opener

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team opened its home slate on Tuesday afternoon, splitting a pair of nonconference matchups with Clarkson University.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1:
  • The Golden Knights opened the first inning with a run, after Michele Winn singled up the right side, batting in Danielle Whitman. Whitman was on third, as she doubled to left field and advanced to third on an out on first.
  • The Lakers were scoreless through the opening inning, while holding their opponents to one run through the second. During its second appearance at bat, Oswego took the lead off an Angela Frampton home run to center field. Frampton drove in Madelana Wrubel who was waiting on second.
  • After a Clarkson run in the top of the third, Erin Sweeney recorded the game winning score in the bottom of the inning when Leah Czerwinski reached first base on an error by the shortstop.
  • Scoring an insurance run for the Lakers was Jessica Roe who doubled to left field, earning an RBI on the Brianna LoMonaco run.
  • With one out in the top of the seventh, Frampton relieved Brianna Harrington from the mound, striking Liz Caggiano out to end the game.  Harrington earned the victory, pitching 6.1 innings while allowing just two runs.
Game 2:
  • Clarkson struck first, putting up a run in the top of the first inning. It was again Winn with the RBI as she sent Dunn across home plate on a single through the right side.
  • Both squads would go scoreless through the next five innings.
  • Clarkson made it 2-0 in the top of the seventh on a throwing error by Frampton on the mound.
  • The Lakers would deny the shutout, with a slew of pinch hit and pinch run changes. Harrington, who pinch hit for LoMonaco, batted in the run, as Joelle Nesci rounded third base before crossing home plate on a single to left field.
  • Frampton pitched through all seven innings, allowing two runs and only one two-base hit.

Oswego hits the road for a doubleheader with conference rival Plattsburgh at 3 p.m. on Friday.
