Chilson Grand Slam Propels Lakers to Victory

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Behind a seventh inning grand slam from Nick Chilson, the Oswego State baseball team broke back into the win column by defeating the University of Rochester on the road, 5-4.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Oswego 5, Univ. of Rochester 4
  • Location:  Towers Field - Rochester, N.Y.
  • Records:  Oswego 23-12 | Rochester 16-14
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chilson turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead with one out in the seventh inning with his second home run of the season.
  • Ryan Enos had reached base with a single and Lukas Olsson and Brandon Nicholson were on board with walks to set the table for Chilson.
  • Oswego plated a fifth run when Dylan Frawley and Myles Felton walked to put runners in scoring position, and Rocco Leone singled to earn the RBI.
  • Rochester looked to take control of the game early on with two runs in the fifth and were using a platoon of pitchers, five in the first six innings, to keep Oswego off the board.
  • The Yellowjackets cut into the Laker lead with two runs in the eighth inning and had the go-ahead run aboard with two outs, but junior Ben Wilcox came in to induce a groundout to keep Oswego on top heading into the ninth inning.
  • Bobby Zywicki came on in the ninth and buckled down with one out and the bases loaded to force a shallow fly out and a groundout to seal the win and earn his second save of the season.
  • Jake Jacobs went the first four innings for the Lakers, allowing only four runners to reach base while striking out three.  Anthony Van Fossen (2-0) earns the win with a clean sixth inning of work.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers return home to face conference opponent Fredonia on Friday with a 3 p.m. first pitch slated.
