HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
- After inducing three-straight groundouts by the Hawks in the first, pitcher Rebecca Vilchez helped herself at-bat by smacking a double to left field in the bottom of the inning. One batter later, Angela Frampton gave the Lakers the 2-0 lead with her fourth home run of the season.
- With the two RBI, Frampton now has 12 on the season to lead the team in the category.
- New Paltz put a runner aboard in the top of the third inning and sacrificed her into scoring position, but a pair of groundouts to the infield ended the threat.
- In the bottom of the third, Oswego loaded the bases on singles by Vilchez and Emily Knowlden, followed by a walk by Frampton. The Lakers were not able to plate a run to extend the lead.
- After a leadoff single in the top of the fifth, Vilchez mowed down the next three batters by strikeout to maintain the 2-0 advantage prior to retiring the Hawks in order in the sixth.
- Oswego used that momentum to tack on some insurance runs with a single by Knowlden followed by three-consecutive doubles from Frampton, Madelana Wrubel and Jessica Roe to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
- Later in the frame, the Lakers loaded the bases when pinch-hitter Claire Hewitt singled to move Roe to third and Brianna LoMonaco walked, still with no outs in the inning.
- A double by Erin Sweeney would plate both Roe and Hewitt followed by a Vilchez single to plate LoMonaco, giving the Lakers the 8-0 win.
- Vilchez (2-5) picked up the complete-game shutout victory while going 3-for-4 from the plate to lead the Laker offense.
Game 2
- New Paltz took an early 2-0 lead with an unearned run in the first inning and another run in the second when they put the leadoff hitter on with a double and singled to bring her home.
- The Lakers had runners in scoring position in the third inning when Sweeney doubled and again in the fourth when Knowlden reached by an error and Frampton walked, but both opportunities were unrequited.
- Vilchez (2-6) suffered the loss while going 3.1 innings and allowing the lone earned run while Frampton pitched three clean innings and Brianna Harrington retired both batters she faced.
