Field Hockey's Close First Half Does Not Hold

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team played a tight first half against defending SUNYAC champion New Paltz on Saturday at home before the Hawks pulled away in the second stanza.

THE BASICS
  • Result: New Paltz 6, Oswego 1
  • Location: Laker Turf Stadium – Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records: New Paltz 6-3 (1-0 SUNYAC)  |  Oswego 3-5 (1-1 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • New Paltz recorded the game's first goal inside the opening three minutes but the Lakers struck next to tie the game at 1-1.
  • At 21:56, sophomore Abby Testo drilled a shot that went careening towards the right post where classmate Alyssa DeMichael redirected past the goalie for the game-tying tally.
  • The Hawks were able to gain an advantage back before the half was out, with Oswego heading to the locker rooms down a goal, 2-1.
  • New Paltz scored two goals in each of the final two quarters to seal the contest.
  • All three of the Lakers' shots came in the second quarter, with two of those coming on-goal. Kathleen Little recorded the other on-target chance along with DeMichael's goal.
  • For the second time in her young career, freshman goalie Erica Scheblein made double-digit saves, finishing with a new career-high of 14.
  • Testo also helped Scheblein on defense, making a defensive save to go along with her assist. The defensive save was first of Testo's collegiate career.
