DiCarlo Scores a Pair as Lakers Fall to Elmira

OSWEGO, N.Y. – For the second straight night, the No. 15 Oswego State men's ice hockey team mounted a resilient third-period comeback, this time behind freshman Alex DiCarlo, but fell short by a 4-3 score to Elmira College.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Elmira 4, Oswego 3
  • Location:  Marano Campus Center Arena – Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records:  Elmira 8-3-1 | Oswego 7-7
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego found themselves playing from behind after Elmira scored just 19 seconds into the contest.
  • Sophomore Josh LeBlanc scored his first goal of the season and second of his collegiate career at 5:57 to tie the score at 1-1.
  • Senior Joseph Molinaro (7) and sophomore Tyson Kirkby (4) recorded the assists on LeBlanc's goal.
  • Elmira went back in front three minutes later on a Justin Robertson goal and the score stayed 2-1 heading into the second period.
  • In a replay of the start of the game, Elmira scored inside the first minute of the second period with a goal at 31 seconds into the stanza.
  • The visitors would push out a 4-1 advantage with a power play goal at 2:53 of the period on a team-leading tenth goal by senior Matthew Cuce.
  • Just like their game last night, the Lakers refused to quit as DiCarlo scored a power play goal at 2:53 of the third period for his first collegiate goal.
  • Senior Josh Zizek (6) and Kirkby (5) recorded assists on the play.
  • DiCarlo struck again at the 10:53 mark for his fourth point in the past two nights and was assisted by junior Carson Vance (6) as Oswego closed the gap to 4-3.
  • Oswego had a great chance to tie the game when Vance intercepted an Elmira clearing pass attempt down the middle of the Oswego offensive zone with 30 seconds left and fired it on net.
  • After an initial save, Broughman secured the rebound and fired his own shot on goal that ended up saved and under the Soaring Eagle goalie.
  • Senior David Richer made 12 saves and only allowed one goal in spelling fellow senior Cedric Hansen.
  • Oswego still controls their own destiny for a bid to the NCAA Championships as they sit atop the SUNYAC standings.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers hit the road for a non-conference contest on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Rochester against Nazareth College.
