Senior Day Successes For Lakers in the Pool

OSWEGO, N.Y. - Competing on Senior Day, the Oswego State men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Potsdam in dual meet action.  The men were victorious 176-101 while the women won, 166-117.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Oswego men won 12-of-16 events in securing victory, including both the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay.
  • An all-senior 200-yard medley relay squad of Ryan Kreuser, Austin Bull, Nick Weber and Alex Davie kicked things off with a win.
  • In four of the free style events (1,000-yard, 200-yard, 50-yard, 100-yard), the Oswego depth showed itself with the top-three finishers all being Lakers.
  • Weber earned an individual win in the 1,000-yard freestyle and Davie took the 50-yard freestyle victory.
  • Kreuser had the top time in the 100-yard freestyle while freshman Raymond Paull set a new career-best in finishing second in 51.94 seconds.
  • The junior class, led by Walker Snowden's win the 200-yard freestyle, were well represented on the day. 
  • Fellow junior Joseph Weinhofer was first in the 200-yard fly and Nate McBurney took top honors in the 500-yard freestyle.
  • Not be left out, sophomores Matt Rolph (200-yard backstroke) and Cameron Ellis (1-meter & 3-meter diving) both won their respective events.
  • Freshman Zachary Brown made the freshman presence known with his win in the 200-yard IM in 2:02.93.
  • Kreuser, Bull, Weber and Davie finished the meet how they began it, with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Mens-50 Start
 
  • For the women, it was an even split between the Lakers and Bears with eight event wins each, and a split in the relays as well.
  • In almost every event that Potsdam won though, Oswego had the second- and third-place finishers to show off their depth.
  • Individually, senior Julia Lamb won the 1,000-yard free in 11:35.66 and classmate Kayla Merrill touched the wall first in the 200-yard IM.
  • Senior Meghan Maquet won both diving events for the women, with 214.65 points from 3-meters and 234.10 from 1-meters.
  • Emily Ross had a pair of runner ups in the 200-yard breaststroke and 1,000-yard free.
  • Sophomore Eva Potvin took home the 100-yard breaststroke while freshmen Madeleine Crean won the 200-yard backstroke and Twyla Nastasia was first in the 500-yard free.

The teams are off until the SUNYAC Championships from February 19-22 at Erie Community College.
